During Trump’s first term, The Washington Post tracked the number of lies he told while in office. The number went over 30,000. The number of lies increased as he went along, and during his 2024 campaign and since then he has continued to tell blatant lies.
Examples include:
- He said he had the largest inaugural crowd ever in 2020, which crowd photo show is a lie.
- He said he won the 2020 election, when even the Trump-friendly Supreme Court said he had not.
- That USAID sent $100 million for condoms to HAMAS. Utter nonsense
- The the US is the only country that offers birthright citizenship when many other countries do.
- That China runs the Panama Canal. There are Chinese companies near the canal, but they don't run it.
- Ukraine started the war with Russia.
The constant lies hurt us in two ways: They allow him to pursue policies based on these lies that hurt us, like supporting Russia versus Ukraine, and they simply degrade the quality of every day news and discussion. His lies pollute the airwaves and internet with garbage.
Sadly, the Washington Post is not tracking Trump lies this time around. Jeff Bezos is either frightened of Trump or actually chooses to support him. The motto of the Washington Post is “Democracruy dies in darkness.” And Bezos has turned down the level of illumination.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Write a letter to the editor of your area paper and request that they take up the slack and create a running front-page tally of the lies that Trump is telling.
One Response
I am distraught as to how complicit the Bezos Washington Post is in the promotion of lies and disinformation. I wondered if the Post would count up the lies in this second administration, but now I know the answer.
